The Official Stiquito Homepage Answers, "Who are we?"

Stiquito is a small, simple, and inexpensive six-legged robot that has been used as a research platform and to teach science in primary, secondary, and high school curricula.

The latest news! The store is now open! What is Stiquito? What is in the books? About the Authors.

We Answer:

OK, so who are "We?"

The Official Stiquito Homepage grew out of tons of email written to Jonathan Mills and James Conrad.  People kept asking us, "is this available?", or "where can I buy this?", or "can I do this?"

I (James Conrad) set up this web page to answer questions.  Then people started asking where they could buy a little bit of nitinol or a few screws.  So the repair and screws kits were born.  Then people asked about Beginner Book kits, and the Stiquito II materials.  I eventually said, "oh what the heck, I'll set up a little e-commerce site to sell little bits of this and that."

So there you go.  Plus my wife wanted to learn e-commerce, HTML, and also wanted something to do at home.

The official owner of "The Official Stiquito Page" is Micro Robotics Supply, Inc., a North Carolina Corporation.  Our goal is really not to make lots of money (because, frankly, we don't), but instead to provide additional materials to make your Stiquito building a pleasurable experience.  Hmmm, that's marketing talk.  Let's just say we hope to solve your problems, and provide a fun platform to study robotics.

Keep in mind that this page and the sales are done as a service to Stiquito users.  It is not really a source of income, so we do not have 24/7 phone attendants ready to answer your questions or take your orders.  We do it when we have time.  Therefore, please communicate via email - we'll answer it as fast as possible.  Usually, once a day, in the evening. Just remember, sometimes our ISP is down, we go on vacations, we go on business trips, or are just too tired to answer the mail after a long day at our real jobs.  (If you want to know what our real jobs are, go to James Conrad's university web page)

What is this "PayPal" thing

I discovered PayPal while cruising eBay.  The concept is neat - they are actually serving as an online bank - of sorts.  You can transfer money to and from them via Electronics Funds Transfer (EFT).  They can also accept money via a credit card.

If you want to buy something from us, you can "send" us money via PayPal (which, as stated above, came from EFT or a credit card).  Eventually, we will transfer the money to our checking account (after we have verified that you received the ordered item).  PayPal makes money through fees they charge me (about 3.0% to 4.0% of the sale price, plus $0.30 per transaction).

We use PayPal because it does not require us to set up a Credit Card account with a bank, complete with big bank fees.  Remember, we are not making much money at this, so anything we can do to lower costs helps you in the long run.

They recently set up a shopping cart, which should make it easier for you to shop for several items at once.

One downside is that you have to trust us.  But we're trustworthy.  Eagle Scouts.  Nice people.  Really!  If you have questions, just contact us at jconrad@stiquito.com

Oh, PayPal now accepts payment from some foreign countries.  We describe this in more detail here.

Privacy Policy

Your personal data (name, email, address, phone) are not shared with anyone outside of Micro Robotics Supply, Inc.  Period.

Although we may contact you after an inquiry or sale (to confirm your question was answered or an item was delivered), we will not contact you about an announcement of a new item or other such event.

US Shipping Options, and when will I get my item

US shipping costs are included in the price of items, and are sent through the US Postal Service.  Books will be send via Media Mail with tracking.  Large orders which do not include books may also be sent Third Class with tracking.  Everything else is sent First Class.

You can request Express Mail shipments (one day delivery) for an added cost.  Priority mail typically delivers in two days.  You can also request Priority Mail shipments instead of First Class/Third class/Media mail, but you will need to pay more to cover this cost. Go here to upgrade shipping.  If we give you a tracking number, you can go to the US Post office web site to check the progress of your shipment.

How long does it take for us to fill orders? We usually send first class items out the next day:  small kits can go in the mailbox, so they take 0-2 days to process.  Larger orders that require tracking take 1 - 4 days to process and take to the post office.  If something is out of stock, we will let you know via email.

How long will the post office take to deliver your item?  From experience, only God knows.  The US Postal Service surely does not.  We find that Priority Mail can take 2-5 days for delivery, First Class and Media mail takes 2 days to 2 weeks!

International Shipping Options, and when will I get my item

Shipping costs are included in the price of items, and are sent through the US Postal Service.  Books, butterflies and built robots will be send via Airmail letter post.

You can request Express Mail shipments for insurance.  It is highly recommended for orders over $100.  Go here to upgrade shipping.  If we give you a tracking number, you can go to the US Post office web site to check the progress of your shipment.
